Heritage fruit trees for Werribee Mansion

Silvia and I were happy in Nov 2009 to deliver some of our Heritage fruit trees from our nursery that will be used to reinstate the 1920's Orchard behind Werribee Mansion, although records of the original varieties are not available apples, pears, plums & Quinces will be planted to add to the existing old trees that were very overgrown, we also know peaches were grown in the times of 1923-1973 when it was owned by the Catholic college.

if anyone can help with any records that show what was there before we wopuld be happy to here from you, our first priority will be to replant those varieties.

In Feb Silvia & I will check the fruit on the existing trees to see if we can identify them.

We are very happy to be involved on behalf of the Heritage Fruits Society Inc in helping to re-establish an orchard that will hold varieties that are being lost to Australia as governments close research stations and collections.

With some hard work we may be able to establish a partnership with Werribee Park to increase the collection to safe gaurd some varieties for the future.
