The Human Race and it's Survival

This has as much to do about a real need to share equitably the world resources and knowledge as it is about respecting each persons view to believe in any belief system they choose.

Unfortunately for change to occur I believe we will need to witness some catastrophic events as a catalyst. It would be better if we could act now and follow the model of Cuba’s recent crisis on fuel that made some significant improvements towards the peoples needs being met by organic & non energy consuming models.

Current land ownership models do favour the rich over the poor with land use decisions being dictated by an economic decision rather than a holistic view of what may be best for all, examples of the urban sprawl in Australia over the most productive arable river flats.

No regards are given to passive solar orientation when planning suburb,s the result is an increased use of reverse cycle air conditioners and every increasing house size while average number of occupants fall. Results of this show a peak usage of electricity in Summer now as opposed to a Winter peak prior to the 1980’s.

Deregulation of trading hours have seen people rostered to work over 24/7 and the demised of small family owned enterprises for basic needs, this has led to a breakdown of the family unit and increased dependence on substance abuse or needing to be “entertained” by external sources rather than enjoying life, particularly children (ie: DVD’s, video games, sports) this fosters the unrealistic values of individuals expected worth for playing sports or being a celebrity rather than being a contributing member of a basic functioning & nurturing society.
