It is really is easy once you know the basic rules. So we will cover ;
Soils- improving or build your own. while this is not a full Horticulture or Agronomy degree we will take a good look at what is soil and how does it work.
We also wont just look at the basics we will do a couple of experiments and try to understand why the soil profile you have is so important, if it is not the best or not easily repairable, we will look at altermnative ways to achive good results anyway, even on contaminated soils.
Water- how to conserve water and grow food- legally within the restrictions set by local Govt.
we will look at the water cycle, how much water do plants need, greywater and its use, sizing of tanks, use of swales and mulch. and most important, how to use it effectively.
Organic, Bio Dynamic or Permaculture- what’s the difference? what is best for me, how can I use these to esign my veggie/herb/fruit garden, what does labeling mean, we will also look at "planting by the moon", "Angnihotra", "peppering"& companion planting, and other techniques and try to dispel the myths and cut through the sales pitches.
Propagating- seeds, seedlings, cuttings, grafting. we will look at athe basics of how to and what do you need to be sucessfull at these cheap methods of growing your own good quality food.
Fruit trees- Heritage varities on Dwarf rootstocks - how to choose, buy, plant, propogate.
